FAQ: Personalised Daily Online Transaction Limits Based on Customer Profile (Customer Profiling)

1. What is Customer Profiling for setting appropriate transfer and payment limits?
chevron

It is a risk mitigation approach aimed at reducing customer losses from online crimes. It involves setting transaction limits for fund transfers and bill payments via mobile and internet banking channels, tailored to each customer’s financial profile.

It helps limit potential losses for customers who fall victim to online scams and increases the chance for the bank’s ability to intercept fraudulent transactions when scammers use bank accounts for illicit activities.

Due to the rising incidence of cybercrime, some customers still fall victim despite ongoing awareness campaigns and security measures. This measure helps protect customers by limiting risks. It does not affect transactions via other channels like branches, ATMs/CDMs, debit or credit cards. Customers can also request temporary or permanent limit increases by submitting supporting documents.

This measure applies only to fund transfers and bill payments to others, including transfers to one’s own accounts at other financial institutions via UOB TMRW app and UOB Personal Internet Banking.

Excluded transactions included: Fund transfers between a customer’s own UOB accounts; Payments for UOB credit cards and loans from their own UOB deposit accounts; and Mutual fund purchases via UOB TMRW app or UOB Personal Internet Banking.

This measure applies to new individual customers registering for UOB TMRW app or UOB Personal Internet Banking, and vulnerable customers (both new and existing) who meet the bank’s criteria. Details are available on the bank’s website, click

This policy will take effect on 15 September 2025 for new customers and vulnerable existing customers who meet the bank’s criteria.

The bank sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused by the implementation of this measure when using online services. Transaction limits are determined through an assessment of each customer’s financial information and risk profile, with particular attention to vulnerable groups. As a result, some customers may receive limits that do not fully reflect their actual usage needs on the UOB TMRW app or UOB Personal Internet Banking.

The bank places great importance on addressing the diverse needs of individual customers. If a customer wishes to request an increase in their online transaction limit, they may submit additional documents or evidence through the bank’s designated channels. The bank will then review and adjust the limit to better suit the customer’s usage requirements.

Yes, the measure to set appropriate transfer and payment limits based on customer profile (Customer Profiling) is a policy jointly implemented by all financial institutions. However, each customer may receive different limits depending on the criteria set by each financial institution and the financial information they hold about the customer.

Financial institutions began implementing the policy in August and September 2025. UOB starts this measure from 15 September 2025 onwards.

Yes, UOB will notify customers through social media, UOB TMRW app, the bank’s website, and SMS messages sent to existing customers affected by the measure.

UOB determines the limit based on the customer’s online behaviour and financial information held by the bank. This is to reduce potential risks and losses and to prevent misuse of accounts, particularly for high-risk groups.

No, customers may receive different limits from each financial institution. This is because each bank has its own criteria for assessing risk, based on the financial data they can verify and the information they hold about each customer.

Yes, customers can reduce their limits via the UOB TMRW app. Alternatively, they may visit a UOB branch with their ID card or passport to submit a request for a permanent reduction in their online transaction limit.

If a customer does not wish to conduct online transactions from any of their deposit accounts with UOB, they may request to lock the account to prevent online transfers using the UOB Money Lock service via the following channels:

  • In-person registration at any UOB branch
  • Chat with a bank agent via the UOB TMRW app
  • UOB Contact Centre at Tel. 0 2344 9560

If the bank lacks sufficient financial information or is unable to verify the documents submitted by the customer, we may need to reject the request. Additionally, for vulnerable customers, the bank may choose to restrict online transaction limits to reduce risk.
This measure does not affect transactions via other channels such as branches, ATMs/CDMs, debit cards, or credit cards. Customers can continue using these channels as usual.

For vulnerable customers such as those aged 65 and above, or those for whom the bank lacks sufficient financial information, UOB may reduce online transaction limits via the UOB TMRW app and UOB Personal Internet Banking to minimise potential losses from cybercrime.

Customers will be notified through the bank’s communication channels. However, they may continue to transact via branches, ATMs, debit cards, credit cards, or other bank channels as usual.

The bank periodically reviews customer transaction details to assess risk and determine whether limits should be adjusted. If there is a change to the transaction limit, the bank will notify the customer through its communication channels.

You are currently subject to a daily online transaction limit as part of the Customer Profiling measure. As a result, you may not be able to transact up to the maximum limit displayed on the UOB TMRW app.
