UOB (Thai) revamps the UOB Lady's Card to suit Thailand's financially independent working women

United Overseas Bank (UOB) (Thai) launched an enhanced UOB Lady’s Card to meet the lifestyle needs of contemporary Thai women based on consumer insight and analysis of its cardholder base.

The role of women in Thai society continues to change due to a number of factors including access to education, employment opportunities and lifestyle choices. According to the UOB What Asian Women Want survey, almost nine in 10 of the Thai women said that education (89 per cent) and career development  (89 per cent) were their top priorities, followed closely by financial independence at 86 per cent.

Today, more women than men hold a university degree in Thailand. They also make up 45 per cent of the country’s workforce, with 37 per cent holding senior management roles. This places Thailand among the top three countries in Asia Pacific where women have the most senior management roles.

Within the last 10 years, the average annual income of Thai women has increased by 10 per cent. This increase also gives them more purchasing power. UOB’s credit card data shows that Thai women are spending mainly on the finer things in life, such as travel, fashion and fitness.

Tearavath Trirutdilokkul, Executive Director, Credit Card Products, UOB (Thai), said the Bank has revamped its UOB Lady’s Card benefits to ensure relevance to Thai women of today.

“We recognised the rising power of women several years ago when UOB (Thai) was the first Bank in the country to create a credit card for women. The card helped many women stretch the value of every baht earned as they spent on what mattered most to them. As our customer insight tells us that Thai women are prioritising fashion, health and wellness, we have enhanced the offerings of our UOB Lady’s Card to meet their lifestyle preferences,” Mr Trirutdilokkul said.

According to UOB card data in Thailand, women were responsible for 53 per cent of all UOB card spend last year. In making purchases, they also used their cards 21 per cent more often than men did on theirs. The Bank expects the spending on the revamped UOB Lady’s Card to contribute to the growth of its credit card business. It targets to outpace the country’s total credit card growth by up to three times in 2017.
