UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk sees record turnout of more than 3,000 people unite for charity

Colleagues, family members, customers and partners raise more than 2.2 million Baht

More than 3,000 United Overseas Bank (Thai) Public Company Limited (UOB (Thai) colleagues, their families and, for the first time, customers and partners participated in the annual UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk to raise funds for the Phra Dabos School. Together, they raised more than 2.2 million Baht which will be used to support of education for underprivileged students.

 

The annual UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk is the Bank’s main fundraising and volunteering event that unites UOB colleagues for a good cause. The event was held simultaneously across the Bank’s key markets in Asia and brought together more than 17,000 colleagues from China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It is part of UOB’s Heartbeat Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which focuses on art, children and education and promotes greater partnership, philanthropy and participation to help strengthen community bonds.

 

In Thailand, the UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk was held at Lumpini Park and featured a 2.5-kilometre walk, a five-kilometre run and a family carnival. This is the third year the money raised has gone to support Phra Dabos School. Founded by the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Phra Dabos School conducts vocational education programmes that equip underprivileged children with life and work skills. Twenty students from Phra Dabos School participated in UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk.

 

Mr. Choon Hin Tan, Chief Executive Officer and President of UOB (Thai), who completed the five-kilometre run this morning, said, “Today marks a milestone in the eight year history of the UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk in Thailand. For the first time, customers and partners have joined UOB colleagues and I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all for sharing in the Bank’s commitment to give back to the community.” 

 

About the UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk

UOB first launched the UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk in Singapore in 2007 to raise funds for local charities in support of art, children and education. UOB subsequently expanded this fundraising activity across Asia with Malaysia in 2008, Indonesia and Thailand in 2011, China in 2012 and Hong Kong in 2014. This is the first year colleagues from Vietnam have joined in the event.
